Sometimes God uses a particular verse to speak to us at just the right moment.
You read the verse and feel like, "Wow, God penned this just for me."
I've been there too. And it's a beautiful thing to sense God bringing Scripture to bear on circumstances in our lives.
But honestly, I've also seen verses taken out of context and misapplied with disasterous results, some in my own life. That's the danger when we pluck out a verse without studiyng the surrounding context to help us interpret it.
Because even though the Bible was written for us, it was not written to us. Pause and think about that for a second.
So how can you be sure that you're interpreting and applying a passage correctly? Well, you study the surrounding context.
In today's Bible study tutorial, I'll walk you through the steps I use when looking at context, zooming out to three levels: paragraph, book, and Big Story.
After you watch the video, share with us in the Facebook group: What's your biggest challenge when it comes to determining context? Have you ever misinterpreted a verse because you lacked context? Or maybe you've been hurt by someone who had misapplied a verse to your situation? Let's learn and grow together.
