How to be passionate in love with Jesus

“I want to love Jesus more, but I don’t know how to get rid of all the distractions in my life.”

Does this sound familiar?

Whether you’re a new Christian or you’ve been a Christian for a while, I think learning to love Jesus more and more is something that we all need to grow in.

Francis Chan says, “The irony is that God doesn’t need us, but He still wants us. We desperately need God, but most of the time, we don’t really want Him.”

So how do we grow in our want for Him, our love for Him?

In this video, I’ll share three steps that can help you grow in your love for Jesus.

First of all, ask Him to stir up your love. We cannot love Him unless He puts in us the desire to love Him. God always answers that prayer because it brings Him joy.

Secondly, abandon competing loves. There are so many things in our lives that we run to instead of running to Jesus. We’ll never grow in our love for Jesus if we keep running to those things. It might be food, it might be relationships, it might be money, shopping, pornography, romantic novels, or drugs. It can be any number of things. Anything that we turn to instead of running to Jesus will jeopardize our love for Him.

The third step is to spend time with Him. But how do you spend time with Someone you don’t see?

Listen in for some practical ideas to spend time with Jesus and grow in your love for Him.

Your Next Steps:

Step 1: Ask God to grow your love for Him

Step 2: Identify and abandon competing loves (ask God and a trusted friend if a fast is appropriate)

Step 3: Spend time with Jesus. Pick one idea suggested in this video, and practice it this week.
